  • Our lab has been granted an Indian Patent (IN 583647) for the work titled “A Method Based on Self-Focusing and Self-Defocusing Effects to Study Protein Aggregation in Real-Time.” The patent, granted on March 17, 2026, recognizes the pioneering work of our inventors Dr. Manika Dandapat, Priyadarshi Sahoo, and Dr. Umakanta Tripathy in developing a novel nonlinear optical approach for real-time monitoring of protein aggregation. This method utilizes self-focusing and self-defocusing effects under third-order nonlinearity to accurately track protein conformational changes through variations in the nonlinear refractive index (n₂). Notably, it enables identification of early-stage oligomers and toxic species via a characteristic sign transition in n₂. The technique is chemical-free, highly sensitive, and eliminates the need for complex instrumentation or extensive sample preparation. This achievement underscores our lab’s commitment to advancing biomedical diagnostics and protein aggregation studies through cutting-edge research and technology.
